Study Visa
Foreign students can study in Canada with the help of a study permit. It also allows international students to work in the country during their study program, which must last at least one year. If a foreign student has children, they are entitled to free public education. After earning a Canadian degree, you and your spouse can apply for a work visa to stay in Canada for another 2-3 years, allowing you to apply for permanent residency under the Canadian Experience Class immigration program.
There are over 80 provincial immigration streams and it can be difficult to determine for which stream are you eligible.
Study Permit Eligibility Criteria
You must be accepted by a designated Canadian institution to be eligible for a study permit. You must also show that you have sufficient finances to cover tuition and living expenses for yourself and any family members accompanying you to Canada.
It’s critical that you don’t pose any security risks to Canada. As a result, you must submit a document from a police agency stating that you have no criminal history. You may be requested to show a medical certificate if necessary. Finally, you must persuade a visa officer during the interview that you do not intend to apply for refugee status or work illegally in Canada.
Canada Study Permit Requirements
To apply for a study permit, you need to provide the following documents:
- Letter of acceptance: A Letter of Acceptance confirms your acceptance to a certain Canadian university or college. It will be sent to you via e-mail or regular mail.
- ID Documents: A passport and two recent photographs are required (3×4). You should write your full name and birth date on the back of the photos. If you are accompanied by family members, they must also present the same documentation. A birth certificate is required for minor children.
- Financial Proof: If you’ve sent money to Canada, you’ll need to furnish a Canadian bank account. You will require a reference letter from the financial institution if you have taken out a loan. You must also provide bank references for the previous four months and a document demonstrating that you have sufficient cash to live in Canada. Finally, if you have been awarded a scholarship or have been accepted into a program, show proof.
