Northwest Territories

The Arctic Archipelago to the north, the Arctic mainland, and the Mackenzie Valley area are the three primary geographic areas of the Northwest Territories. The arctic mainland, also known as the Barren Lands, is located northeast of the treeline, while the Mackenzie Valley is located west of it. The Northwest Territories has a population of little over 40,000 people and acres upon acres of unspoiled forest. The economy of the area is based on its huge geological resources, which include gold, diamonds, natural gas, and petroleum.

Prospective immigrants having the skills and expertise that the government is looking for may be eligible for a provincial nomination in Newfoundland and Labrador under NLPNP.

The NLPNP accepts applications under the following immigration categories:

Applicants who have been approved into the federal Express Entry pool may apply for the NL Express Entry Skilled Worker category.
  • Skilled Worker Category: Individuals who have obtained a guaranteed employment offer from a Newfoundland and Labrador employer are eligible to apply under this category. Individuals with a valid work permit who are actively working in the province may also be eligible.
  • International Graduate Category: This category is open to recent graduates of an appropriate Canadian post-secondary institution who have earned a Post-Graduate Work Permit.
  • International Entrepreneur Category: Foreign nationals who want to live in Newfoundland and Labrador and start, co-manage, or buy a business will soon be able to apply for this NLNP business immigration category. Before requesting a provincial nomination, candidates must run their business for a year while on a Temporary Work Permit.
  • International Graduate Entrepreneur Category: This NLNP International Graduate Entrepreneur programme will enable international graduates who have attended post-secondary institutions in Newfoundland and Labrador and want to start, co-own, or operate a business in the province with a road to permanent residency in Canada.
  • Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program: Atlantic Canada is working with the Canadian government to employ foreign employees to fill employment openings in the region. Foreign citizens who are residing abroad or in Canada on a temporary basis at the time of application may be eligible.
